National Energy Transportation Integration Development Research Institute established
How does new energy help the development of transportation? How does the demand for transportation in the future lead the evolution of energy structure and model? To promote the deep integration and development of energy and transport, and to meet the major scientific and technological challenges in two major areas, the National Research Institute of Energy and Transportation Integration (hereinafter referred to as “the Institute”) June 9 was officially established at North China Electric Power University.
According to Jia Limin, dean of the Institute and professor of Beijing Jiaotong University, the integration of energy and transportation is mainly reflected in four major directions: transportation-specific energy systems, such as traffic power network systems, and energy-driven new transportation systems, such as new energy vehicles; Traffic-led new energy systems, such as distributed transport energy systems, etc.; co-evolution of energy and transportation, such as transport energy internet.
These four directions are also the focus of the Institute’s attention. According to Yang Yongping, director of the expert committee of the institute and president of North China Electric Power University, the institute set up under the guidance of four ministries and commissions such as the Ministry of Science and Technology will serve the purpose of “necessity for the country, distinctive features, innovation in the mechanism, and development in order to guide the development”. To establish an organizational system and framework for multidisciplinary collaborative research, and to strengthen research on cross-convergence topics such as smart grids and smart transportation, clean energy, and green transportation, and create new think tanks with international influence.
